Oy after we played woof shadow puppets
in a dark-as-can-get-it bedroom
our four-year-old grandchild brought out
crystals which radiated enough
fluorescence that they turned from usual
white to neon blue lit up space!

Gerard Sarnat, a poet and aphorist, has won multiple awards including San Francisco Poetry’s Contest and the Dorfman Prize, and has been nominated for the Science Fiction Poetry Association Dwarf Star Award, Pushcarts, and Best of the Net Awards. His work is published internationally, including in The New York Times, Gargoyle, The Los Angeles Review, and more, plus anthologies and university journals across North America. A Harvard and Stanford-educated physician, Gerry has contributed significantly to healthcare for the underserved. He's also active in climate justice efforts.
